you just gotta take a break!
i know i've been away a bit lately..but gosh, its been kinda hard to keep up with everything in my life. the commitment to do thurs. nites is really a....commitment. i've felt this need to always have something new, which means i've been constantly working. not to mention, i had a city "fair" this past saturday. and of course i had to make new bags for it.
after working all last week, i decided to try and take some time for my family...i really needed to clean up around my house, make a few good meals, and just sit and watch cartoons with the kids, play doll house, read books, play train set...and hopefully today we'll be baking. and also, can't forget the dh...we played da vinci's challenge (a boardgame) all last nite...well, not really but really. and guess what???!!!! i finally bought the book i've been wanting for ever: eatpraylove.
so that's what i've been doing...but i do miss you all...and have been thinking about connecting with you all everyday...i actually missed it alot. but i had to take some time for the lil ones and hubby in my life...
so on to my creative life....this is what i've been working on and at.
it reads "each moment in life is perfect"
close up of the x stitched butterflies
this one reads, "joy, joy, joy"
close-up of the x stitched bumble bee
this one reads, "i am serene, i love life"
close-up of the cute little bird perched up on the tree.
another close-up of the x stitched butterflies fluttering about
this one reads, "i communicate with my heart, i am love"
close-up of the blue bird and its flowers of love...this bird took hours...no joke...hours
this one reads, "miracles happen every day"
the back of each one reads "life is sweet and so am i"
i really loved doing these five pieces. they are a mix of what i did for my solo show...and my original reason for wanting to do bags for women...putting affirmations we all need to read and hear everyday in our lives...this is the direction i think my bags will be going in. positive pieces of art to tote around everyday.
here is a piece of my heart also...my quilted jewelry...i love these pieces to death and back...they feel as original as me...they almost feel like the essence of me...a sweet quilted heart or image to carry with you daily....can i tell you again how much i love these? they make my heart sing...and race fast...i can't wait to continue to do more...and do more jewelry...love it!!! ooh...and there is so much more to come in this department...so much...i can't wait!!
aren't they just lovely? they are all made from imported japanese fabrics, fully free motioned quilted, and strung on various lengths of copper chains.
i love the process of making these little gems...i'm totally a process artist...it's really about the process for me...so they are a lot of joy in my life. i would love to share the process, but honestly...i'm a bit selfish right now...they are my little babies i don't want anyone to take...is that bad?
i'd rather share my famous 7-up cake recipe...but the recipe for these are as sacred to me as my grandmother's very very famous macaroni and cheese...my mom and aunt would skin me if i share it.
speaking of mac and cheese...i know this is off the subject...but man, i made the best vegan mac and cheese ever in life two nights ago...yumm...that i'll be more than glad to share.
on to other things
i love taking pictures...and i got some from saturday's festival i think are great...looka here:
i love things in pairs of threes...wait is that an oxymoron? yeah...i think it is..score!
i love the mountains that surround my life...i feel like they frame me
i think he was suppose to be the mascot of our orange festival...cute huh?
my sweet fellow artist friend maryanne...showing off one of the first messenger bags i made. she's a bike rider...she rides everywhere...and has carried my bag everyday! its held up so well! she loves it...and i love her! look at the stenciled shirt she did...
isn't it cool...she and a group of bikers (not motor bikes...pedaling bikes) had there weekly bike ride, and then met at her studio where they all did stenciled stuff...it really rocked...
speaking off...check out lee's website...if your into that stuff...he's another cool local artist...who rides his bike everywhere...(i did a bag for him too...it was really cool) he's also a quilt artist. funny thing is before he moved here to riverside, from philly...i found his website and was like cool...wow...you know it was b4 i had started quilting..or maybe i had just started...but anyway...he was here interviewing for a job...and came by the gallery and hung out with us...i found out i had been to his website...and lalala. he makes the best re-worked t shirts. i'll have to take a picture of the one i have...it's the coolest.
ooh and finally look at the sign they gave me
the highest honor for a quilt artist...to be quilted.
okay...off i go, i promised to bake something for the little people running around here, and they are pulling at my leg...saying mama are you done yet? not really...but lets's go!
off baking in a clean kitchen,
paz,
que
