got inspiration?
hello blogworld...
in an effort to catch you up...following will be a loooooonng picture post of some of the things that's been happening around these parts as my sis would say. did you check out my disneyland photo album------> its over there somewhere. scroll down. i like the photo album business...i'ma do some more.
so n e way...
let me tell u a little bit bout what your going to be scrolling thru.
first off is baking. i know i'm back on track when i'm backing like a maniac. and this is what happens with me. i get inspired, i start working on a piece and then i get stuck...but i still want to create...so what do i create...sweet baked goods. i love it, i get to be creative, active, and lets see......indulgent (sp?).
so, i've been working on a new piece as of this week and got stuck...before i started, and in the middle...so i baked and cooked, and baked, and made ice cream. that's the other thing i did whilst i was gone...i got interested in homemade ice cream. thanks to vegan ice cream paradise a lovely blog about homemade vegan ice cream.
back to baking/cooking, so i baked: sweet sticky lemon bread (waaay too sweet and tart...think lemonhead candy bread), almond/vanilla/coconut vegan ice cream (almond by way of milk, but vanilla & coconut flavorings...the verdict...really sweet so kids loved it...e didn't) my version of martha stewart's coffee cake recipe (its veganized...and i will share), vanilla/almond donut tendencies sweet bread (it's hard to name it cause 1. i made it up from the tooo sweet/tart lemon cake, 2. the taste is hard to put your finger on, 3. its good. i really don't know what that last reason had to do with anything, but i figured two reasons was not good enough.) and lastly, i cooked/made fettachini (sp?) and nutritional yeast cheese w. poached chicken (it was so darn good, yet so darn ugly...i was telling my sis, why do my good meals...look so ugly but taste so darn good? she shares the same experiences...so i didn't take a picture...it would just spoil all my talking it up.
okay next up is all the fabric i've been making...yeah i said making...no i'm not technically making it, but i am. i'm dyeing/painting it...and to me that counts as making it. i'm using setacolor fabric paint by peebo (transparent) and some dye-na-flow by jacquard (sp?).
and then, there is all that yummy japanese fabric that i promised to show you that i bought at the santa monica fiber fest this past august.
speaking of that day, that was also the day of my little cousin's baby shower, and my gift was...drum roll...yep a quilt. i have pictures....and ah, i predicted that she would go into labor and she did that night. two weeks before the baby's due date. i'm so good. but then again, i predicted said cousin's birthday when i was 9 or 10. i told my aunt the date the baby was going to be born, and sure enough dawn came on that day nov. 3rd.
and lastly, just some shots around my studio these days, and pic of my lil ones sleeping together...how they naturally fall asleep sometimes.
ooh and the piece i am working on for dia de los muertos.
okay enough talking...here are 30+ pictures...i gotta get to my homework...enjoy.
wow, that took 20 minutes!
but, its done...yay...and you can see for yourself that i have been working on inspiring myself.
some footnotes: sorry that those quilt pictures are crappy, but i didn't take pics of it at home, i did at my grandma's house which is very hot, and dark, yet full of all the love in the world...like a oven :)
and the little heart on the quilt says, with love, kiki '07. the writing is free style quilting on my machine, and i hand sewed it on on the way there. i have to make the heart with her birthday stats now.
can you tell how much i love the heart, by looking at my design board. that heart on the pink fabric, was hand drawn and free motion stitched by machine...lots of work...but man is it nice. (the one on the left) the other one is pieced fabric with some free motion quilting on it also.
look at the beautiful happy drawings my son makes me...he started doing them at 2...and man is he good...better than me with coming up with characters.
oooh, and i forgot to mention above, those pink flower petal looking things...well those are actually pounded out rose petals...the color is amazing.
and the other fabric "drawings" were a little exercise i did of gesture drawing on the fabric one day when i was getting bored of painting them. they are birds from my imagination. they represent freedom, and the feeling of being free.
during this time that i took my blog break i did a lot of soul searching, and found a lot of freedom for myself...so i think that is why i became obsessed with birds in flight.
i am so free.
okay, enough procrastinating on my behalf. i have homework to do...now!
off to continue fighting this nasty cold beast in my sinuses...
lots of love,
ki
